Course details
Paris has been the birthplace of major urban models since the 19th century - and still is today. Current policies combine international attractiveness with an ambitious commitment to tackling the environmental and social challenges of the 21st century in the context of a historic European city. This reflects upon the programme’s interdisciplinary approach to urban planning, drawing on social sciences, engineering, design and environmental science, thus providing tools to critically engage with urban transitions.
At the curriculum’s core is the urban planning studio, in which students develop analyses and proposals for real life project areas in the Paris area. Recent topics include the low-carbon redevelopment of the Porte de Montreuil district and the future of the Bièvre, a river which ran through Paris before being buried and channeled in the early 20th century.
